STEP ONE: Getting your name just right
To get started, you'll need to set up your free e-mail account, free webhosting, and free blog account.
We recommend Yahoo.com or Google.com for most basic e-mail services. The e-mail service from either is first-rate, and you can access your mail from any Internet connection in the world using their web-based services. As long as you have Internet access, you can get to your e-mail.
We recommend selecting your domain name from available URL's before registering e-mail, webhosting and blog accounts, as we feel it's best to name your sites with appropriate names. That's where we'll start:
For instance, we've set up our own e-mail as 'fixyourcreditreport@gmail.com,' and our blog offers free advice to help people fix errors in their credit reports and offers free tips on improving credit scores. We doubt we'd have as much success if we named our e-mail 'funkymunky@gmail.com.' Get serious about your image, because it will pay off down the road.
To start, we'll direct you to Network Solutions, where you can search for a concise, appropriate domain name.
We've found that web site domains that utilize hyphens between words are working very well to get a memorable name that tells users what your site is all about (ex: www.credit-letters.com), and the hyphens act like spaces between words for search engine spiders.
There are a free tools you can use which allow you to type in certain phrases or topics, and you get back the exact phrases people have typed into search engines,as well as the bid amounts advertisers are willing to pay for these keywords.
Knowing this, you'll have insight into exactly the phrases people are thinking of as they access the web. By copying these phrases and by inserting hypens into the spaces between the words, now you'll have valuable search-term lists as you search for just the right domain. We've found multiple domains this way.
"Pay-per-click" advertising is a subject we'll cover all on its own in a future chapter, as it will likely continue to change search engine optimization rules webmasters have relied on in the past.
When you have fully researched your domain names, come back here to complete Step #2...
